The Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony is holding open auditions for students seeking an advanced youth ensemble experience.  Detroit MYS is a supplement to the school music program and provides additional guidance and challenge for the advancing music student in grades 2-12.  Our exceptional orchestra was recently recognized nationally in the American Prize competition!  Four orchestras rehearse Saturday mornings at Berkshire Middle School and perform three concerts each season:
  • Sinfonia String Orchestra - Director Lyd DeLeeuw, Ferndale School District: Grades 2 - 7 (All Strings - able to read music, no previous ensemble experience necessary)
  • String Orchestra - Director Geoff Benes, retired from Troy School District: Grades 5 – 9 (All Strings - able to read music, 2 years instrumental experience suggested)
  • Concert Orchestra - Director Jim Van Eizenga, Novi Community School District: Grades 8 – 12 (Full Orchestra – All Instruments3 yrs instrumental experience suggested)
  • Symphony Orchestra - Director Doug Bianchi, Wayne State University: Grades 9 – 12 (Full Orchestra – All Instruments4 yrs instrumental experience suggested)
